J'ouvert is where carnival actually opens. Hours before the costumed bands hit the road, revellers come out in the dark covered in paint, mud, oil, powder or clay and follow the music trucks until sunrise. Every carnival has its own version — Jab Jab and oil in Grenada, paint in Trinidad, Rise and Shine in the BVI, Brooklyn's pre-dawn tramp — and this page collects the J'ouvert footage from all of them.
