Atlanta Caribbean Carnival Videos

Atlanta's Caribbean Carnival brings the road to the Georgia summer.

Atlanta Caribbean Carnival runs in the late spring and summer, built around the parade and a fete calendar that draws the Caribbean community across the South-East. The bands, the trucks and the soca are the same tradition carried north. Atlanta video collects on this page.

What Atlanta Carnival is

Atlanta Caribbean Carnival is the Southeast's largest celebration of Caribbean carnival culture, staged each year by Caribbean American communities across metro Atlanta. It began in 1987, when people from several islands came together to introduce the wider Atlanta community to Caribbean culture through a West Indian style carnival, and it has run annually since — reaching its 39th year in 2026. The heart of it is the same as it is anywhere mas is played: bands of masqueraders in full costume moving through the streets behind trucks of soca and calypso, with sections led by bandleaders who design and build the costumes months in advance. Around the parade sits a festival village of Caribbean food, music stages, craft vendors and a Junior Carnival for children, plus a season of fetes and J'ouvert events in the days leading up to it. Atlanta's carnival is a diaspora carnival, which shapes what you see on the road: Trinidadian, Jamaican, Bajan, Haitian, Guyanese and Virgin Islands traditions share the same route, and many masqueraders travel in from other US cities for the weekend. For anyone searching for "ATL Carnival", "Caribana Atlanta" or "Atlanta Caribbean festival", this is the event they mean.

When it happens

Atlanta Caribbean Carnival is held over Memorial Day weekend in late May, with the main parade on the Saturday and fetes, J'ouvert and Junior Carnival spread across the surrounding days. That is the recurring pattern, not a confirmed future date — the organizer publishes each year's dates ahead of the season. The next date has not been confirmed yet.

Parade

The Carnival Parade assembles downtown on the northbound side of Peachtree Street at Andrew Young International Boulevard, near the Hard Rock Café at 215 Peachtree Street, and steps off north on Peachtree Street before turning west onto Ivan Allen Jr Boulevard. In 2026 assembly was from 10am with the parade running 12pm–4pm, ending at the festival site in Historic Vine City. Check the organizer's route sheet each year — the assembly point and end point have moved between venues.

Culture and history

Atlanta's carnival grew out of the city's Caribbean immigrant communities rather than out of a single island's tradition. When it started in 1987 the stated purpose was to familiarise metro Atlanta with Caribbean culture through a West Indian style carnival, and the bandleaders who run the mas bands still frame their work that way — as cultural and artistic expression, a driver of local economic activity and a way of bringing Caribbean communities in Georgia together. That history explains why the road mixes traditions: Trinidad-style mas and steelband sit alongside Jamaican, Haitian, Guyanese and Eastern Caribbean music and food, and the festival village carries as much weight as the parade itself.
