Miami Carnival — officially Miami Broward One Carnival — is the biggest Caribbean carnival in the southeastern United States and one of the largest in North America. Unlike the pre-Lenten carnivals of Trinidad and Brazil, South Florida's season runs in October, built around the Columbus Day weekend, and it draws masqueraders and soca fans from across the Caribbean, the US and Canada. It is a full season rather than a single day. The programme opens with Junior Carnival for children's bands, followed by a steelband Panorama or Pan Jamboree, a run of fetes including the long-running Red Road Fete, the official J'ouvert, and then Carnival Day itself: the Parade of the Bands and the concert stage, with bands crossing the stage in costume section by section. The road is a South Florida mix — Trinidadian mas structure at its core, with Jamaican, Haitian, Bajan, Guyanese and Virgin Islands communities all represented in the bands, the music and the food.
