Notting Hill Carnival Videos
Notting Hill takes West London over the August bank holiday.
Notting Hill Carnival fills the streets of West London over the August bank holiday weekend, with J'ouvert and the children's day on Sunday and the adults' parade on Monday. Static sound systems, steel bands and mas bands share the same route, and the whole thing traces back to the Caribbean communities who built British carnival. London footage lands here.

What London Carnival is
Notting Hill Carnival is the largest street carnival in Europe and the biggest carnival of the Caribbean diaspora outside the Caribbean itself. It takes over the streets of west London every August bank holiday weekend and drew its 60th anniversary edition in 2026. It runs across three days with a clear shape. Saturday is Panorama, the UK National Steel Band Competition, held as a ticketed event. Sunday is J'ouvert and the Children's Day Parade, when the youngest bands take the road and adults play "dutty mas" in mud and paint. Monday is the Adults Parade — the day most people mean by Notting Hill Carnival — with the full mas bands, the judging zone, and the static sound systems that give the carnival its second, distinctly London character: reggae, dub, soca, funk and house systems set up on street corners along the route. The mas itself follows Trinidadian structure — bands in sections, bandleaders, costume builders, music trucks — carried to London by Caribbean migrants. For anyone searching "Notting Hill Carnival dates", "Carnival London" or "Notting Hill Carnival route", this is that event.

Notting Hill Carnival is held over the August bank holiday weekend at the end of August: Panorama on the Saturday, J'ouvert and Children's Day on the Sunday, and the Adults Parade on the bank holiday Monday. In 2026 that fell on 29–31 August. Each year's dates are confirmed by the organizers. The next date has not been confirmed yet.

The Adults Parade takes place on the bank holiday Monday through the streets of Notting Hill and Ladbroke Grove in west London, with a judging zone on the route; the Children's Day Parade runs on the Sunday. Sound systems are set up at fixed points along the route across both days. Each year's route map, road closures and timings are published by the organizers ahead of the weekend.

J'ouvert opens the Sunday of the carnival weekend, before the Children's Parade, with adults playing "dutty mas" in mud, paint and powder — the London version of the pre-dawn Canboulay tradition carried over from Trinidad.

The Saturday of the weekend is UK National Panorama, the national steel band competition, including Junior Panorama — a ticketed event rather than a street day. Around it sit mas band launches, soca events and the sound system programme across Sunday and Monday.

Notting Hill Carnival grew out of the Caribbean community's response to racism in 1950s and 60s Britain — the aftermath of the 1958 Notting Hill race riots and the murder of Kelso Cochrane, and the indoor Caribbean carnival organised by Claudia Jones in 1959, alongside the street festivals begun in the area in the mid-1960s. It has run since 1966 and marked its 60th anniversary in 2026. That origin is why the carnival is inseparable from Britain's Windrush-generation history, and why the organizers frame it as heritage and education as much as spectacle: the mas structure, steelband and J'ouvert are Trinidadian, but the sound systems, the route through Ladbroke Grove and the politics of the event are specifically London's.
